Marvelous MelBurton: Tim Burton opens exhibition at ACMI
Tim Burton, delighted crowds with an appearance at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne to officially open Tim Burton: The Exhibition, which will be on display at the centre until 10 October.
The Exhibition showcases over 700 examples of rarely or never-before-seen drawings, paintings, photographs, storyboards, moving-image works, puppets, maquettes, costumes, and cinematic ephemera, spanning Tim Burton’s 28-year career.
Some of the highlights within the exhibition include:
Edward Scissorhands’ Gothic outfit, one of Burton’s most iconic images.
A 3.5 metre high, 2.5 metre wide reproduction of a topiary stag – one of the brilliant sculptures that Edward Scissorhands carves from a suburban hedge.
Original models and puppets from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas will be on display, including a 48cm high version of the hero, Jack Skellington dressed as Santa.
A series of 26 Jack Skellington heads are also exhibited, illustrating how the character speaks and changes facial expressions throughout the film.
Artefacts from the two Burton Batman films, Batman and Batman Returns, including three of the original Batman masks worn by Michael Keaton, Michelle Pfeiffer’s tiny nylon Catwoman suit (complete with very naughty clawed gloves) all designed by British-born costume designer Bob Ringwood. click for a full list of events and information |
